With the taste for SUV expanding exponentially around the world, manufacturers are offering SUVs of various sizes to capture a piece of the market share. What this means for consumers? SUVs will no longer have to be a “one size fits all” package.
Audi’s SUV range is extensive, ranging from large full-sized models like the Q7 to the more compact series such as the Q5 and Q3. Now, enter the Q2 – the new compact SUV contender from Audi to go head-to-head with the Mercedes GLA class. Audi UK has just revealed the pricing and specification for the new Q2 that is set to hit UK showroom floors by 12 November 2016.
As we have previously covered in our launch report, while compact in size, the Q2 is packed with standard equipment. In the UK, the Q2 is offered in four different trims, beginning with the SE, Sport, S-line and the top of the mill Edition #1. Standard Q2 is available as a front-wheel drive layout while higher powered Q2 can be had with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.
Standard equipment for the UK-spec Q2 includes progressive steering, Audi smartphone interface and Audi pre-sense front with pedestrian recognition. Optional equipment includes Audi virtual cockpit, Audi Phone Box wireless charging, Bang & Olufsen sound system and a heads-up display.
Alloy wheels for the Q2 ranges from 16-inch for the SE variant, 17-inch for the Sport variant, 18-inch for the S-line variant and 19-inch for the Edition #1.
All variants of the Q2 except Edition #1 are available with a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine producing 148 hp or a 114 hp 1.6-litre TDI turbodiesel mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed S Tronic automatic transmission. Drive option is limited to FWD.
For Q2 Sport and above, customers have an additional choice of a 2.0-litre TDI turbodiesel that develops 148 hp mated to a sole seven-speed S Tronic automatic transmission. With the 2.0-litre oil burner, the Q2 can be had in either front-wheel drive or quattro all-wheel drive.
For the Edition #1, only two engine choice are available which are the 1.4-litre petrol and the 2.0-litre turbodiesel. Transmission choice for the petrol are a six-speed manual or the seven-speed S Tronic gearbox. The diesel powered Edition #1 can only be had with the seven-speed S Tronic.
Driver assistance systems for the higher range models include adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function and Traffic Jam Assist, Audi Active Lane Assist, rear cross-traffic assist and emergency assist.
Prices for the all-new Audi Q2 begin from £22,380 (RM117k) for the base variant all the way up to £35,730 (RM187k) for the fully decked-out Edition #1 2.0-litre TDI quattro. There will be an entry-level Q2 with a 1.0-litre TFSI petrol engine that is set to be introduced at at later date, with a base price tag of £20,230 (RM106k).
Closer to home, word has it that Audi Malaysia has plans to introduce the all-new Q2 in our shores in the very near future. If equipped and priced right, would you rather have this over the RM239k GLA 200?
