BMW Concept X2 unveiled, a sportier X1 derivative?

Just like how Mercedes-Benz and Audi are expanding their SUV lineup, BMW is also following suit. As of now, the Bavarian giant has plans to introduce the X7 flagship, but before that let’s draw our attention to the BMW Concept X2.

Debuted just recently at the Paris Motor Show, the Concept X2 is basically a sportier version of the X1. The X1 is a conventional four-door SUV, but here the Concept X2 is breaking away from the norm, and fuses coupe-like design, giving it a sportier and more muscular stance.bmw-concept-x2-4

At the back, the scalpel-like headlights and the dual exhaust pipes complete the look, making the Concept X2 a tad more distinctive compared to the X4 and X6.

The signature kidney grille here is glaringly oversized, but the devil’s in the details. BMW cheekily flipped it upside down in order to bring character to this concept. Keen loyalists will be pleased that there’s a BMW logo right next to the Hofmeister kink in this X2.bmw-concept-x2-8

Judging from the X1 it’s based upon, the X2 could be sharing the X1’s 2.0-litre twin-scroll turbo mill and the sDrive front-wheel drive configuration. Do expect a production-ready X2 sometime next year or in 2018, probably with a less over-the-top bodywork and smaller tyres.
