For the first time ever, in the history of this model, you can drop its top. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet made its maiden debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, which brings the total variant tally up to four body styles – in Europe, at least.
Not unlike the bigger brothers the S-Class Cabriolet and the E-Class Cabriolet, the C-Class Cabriolet uses a fabric top instead of a folding hard top favoured by the F33 3-Series Convertible. The operation is fully automatic, of course, and it will take 20 seconds to make the roof disappear or reappear; workable at speeds up to 50 km/h.
A multi-layer acoustic soft top is optional, and if that option box is ticked, the occupants won’t just be enjoying a quieter cabin, but they can also choose the colour of their rag top: black, brown, blue, or red. The rest of the car is pure C-Class Coupe, so it’s basically a graceful looking thing.
Buyers can also opt for the Cabriolet Comfort package that features the electric Aircap draught stop system to save the occupants’ hairdos from getting ruined by the wind with the top down, and the Airscarf system to keeps their necks warm. Another unique feature on the C-Class Convertible is the roll-over protection that consists of a couple of cartridges behind the rear seats that will be fully retracted in roll-over situation.
Two diesel options are available, the C 220 d and the C 250 d. Both use a 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel that produces 170 hp and 400 Nm in the C 220 d, or 204 hp and 500 Nm in the C 250 d.
The petrol range starts with the 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol with 156 hp and 250 Nm in the C 180, followed by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder in three state of tunes. In the C 200 it develops 184 hp and 300 Nm, 211 hp and 350 Nm is available in the C 250, while the highest state of tune can be had in the C 300 with 245 hp and 370 Nm.
Further up the range is the C 400 4MATIC with 333 hp and 480 Nm from a 3.0-litre V6 driving all four wheels. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system can also be specified on the C 220 d and the C 200, but the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic is available across the range.
There’s a high chance for the C-Class Coupe to come to Malaysia, but do you think Mercedes-Benz Malaysia should bring this C-Class Convertible too? It may be a bit pointless in our hot weather but we still hope they do. And you, you secretly do too.
