Volvo V90 unmasked ahead of Geneva debut, gets 407hp Twin-Engine T8! [+Video]

All you wagon lovers out there, rejoice! The big Volvo wagon is back! As reported in our earlier post on the S90, the premium sedan is now joined by a wagon sibling, the V90. The new V90 has been revealed in all its glory through these official press photos, before making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Although Volvo hasn’t released the detailed specs of their new wagon, the third model in the 90-series Volvo is also based on the same SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, so you know that the stuff underneath are largely the same.volvo-v90-1

Expect the V90’s engine range to mirror those already in the XC90 and the S90, which includes the D4 and D5 diesel as well as the T5 and T6 petrol, and Volvo’s Senior VP of R&D has confirmed that the 407 hp and 640 Nm T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid will also be available on the V90. Any more powerful than that you might have to wait for the Polestar boys to work their magic on the V90 (and the rest of the 90-series Volvos, of course).

The V90 will not skimp on tech too. Similar to the other 90-series Volvos, the V90 will feature the City Safety system which will scan its surroundings and alert the driver if there’s anything in the way, while the Pilot Assist offers semi-autonomous driving.

There’s also the Sensus-connect system, which controls everything inside the car via the portrait-style 9-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dash. From the official press pictures here we can see that the rest of the cabin is lifted straight off the S90, and that’s a good thing since the interior represents Volvo’s latest interpretation of understated Scandinavian coolness.volvo-v90-7

The sleek design continues on the outside. If you love how the XC90 and S90 looks, then you will most definitely like the V90. The front three quarter is essentially the S90, but the back now carries an additional baggage. It’s a good-looking thing really, and we think the tail lights on the V90 work better than those on the S90.

So which one is your personal choice? The rugged XC90, the smart S90, or the understated V90?
