Malaysian Mitsubishi ASX gets minor refreshment and a new variant, priced from RM105k

Mitsubishi Motor Malaysia (MMM) has officially announced a new variant to join its crossover, the ASX’s lineup. Prior to this, the ASX was only available in two trims, one being the 2WD and the other range topping 4WD variant. As of today, the ASX 2WD GL will mark its entry as the base and third variant of the model, and it will carry a sticker price of RM105k, making it the cheapest variant of the lot.

Besides the additional variant, the ASX also gets enhancements across the range. Features new to the crossover’s exterior include LED daytime running lights built right into the fog lamp housing, shark fin antenna and a new set of dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels. The new colour you see in the picture above is called Sporty Blue, and is available across the range.

Inside, the 2WD (GL not included) and 4WD ASX gets a new touchscreen head unit that supports USB, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS Navigation and reverse camera. The centre console gets a new design, whereas the door switch panel is finished in piano black. Finishing off the interior kit is Mitsubishi’s Virtual Acoustic Positioning System for better audio reproduction. However, the 4WD is the only variant to get seven airbags, whereas both 2WD variants will come with dual airbags and a driver’s knee airbag.Mitsubishi-ASX-1

To recap, the ASX is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 148 hp at 6,000 rpm and 197 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Nothing is changed here, and the same can be said for its INVECS-III CVT gearbox. Pricing for the ASX starts from RM104,791.87 for the 2WD GL; RM112,571.39 for the 2WD and RM125,040.67 for the 4WD variant. Prices stated here are inclusive of GST but excludes insurance. Bundled together with the crossover is a 5-year factory warranty, and it can be had in four colours including the new Sporty Blue shade.

In conjunction with MMM’s 10th year anniversary, the company is rewarding its customers with an additional cash rebate of up to RM12,000 when purchasing selected models. Customers can also stand a chance to enjoy additional cash deals when booking any Mitsubishi models from now till 31 March 2016.
