By now we’re sure you have heard and seen all there is to know about the fully imported Mazda3 sedan. But beginning today, Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia has announced the arrival of the Mazda3 CKD. Unlike the sole CBU unit, the popular Japanese C-segment sedan now comes in three variants and two body types.

This announcement confirms the equipment levels and their estimated price tags in our earlier report. As a recap, the trio will share the same naturally aspirated 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine paired also to the same six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission. The petrol engine makes 162 hp at 6,000 rpm and 210 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, and all that power is sent to the front wheels.
If you haven’t yet noticed, Mazda is employing the same strategy as the Mazda2 with the pricing of their high spec sedan and hatchback variants – at RM120,705.30 (additional RM400 for metallic paint) without insurance. As opposed to its smaller sibling, the Mazda3 sedan and hatchback’s features don’t mirror each other.
Externally, the range topping duo both sit on 18-inch wheels with 215/45 profile tyres, share the same auto-levelling bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps and smart keyless entry. The base GL variant will make do with 16-inchers (205/60 series tyres), halogen headlamps, halogen-type DRLs and bulb type tail lamps.

Standard features on the inside include a 7-inch LCD touchscreen head unit with MZD Connect System, reverse camera, six speakers, leather wrapped steering wheel with switches, push-start ignition, i-Stop function and a total of six airbags. Now, the high spec hatchback will get fabric seats with manual adjusters, paddle shifters, GPS navigation and Adaptive Front-Lighting System.
Despite sharing the same price tag, the sedan is best equipped here with all the niceties its hatchback half offers, but with extra features such as leather upholstered seats and power adjustable driver seat. It doesn’t end there, though. For the same price, you also get cruise control, auto dimming rear view mirror, Head-Up Display, High Beam Control System, Smart City Brake System, Rear Vehicle Monitoring and Lane Departure Warning System.
There are four colours to choose from: Artic White, Meteor Grey Mica, Aluminium Metallic, and Blue Reflex Mica. In reference to the pricing in the table above, all variants will incur an additional cost of RM400 if your colour option isn’t white. As with all their models, the Mazda3 CKD also comes with a three-year or 60,000km free maintenance package.
