2014 Volvo XC90 to have Twin Engine technology, with 400hp & 640Nm

Volvo released another nugget of information about their new XC90, and this time it’s regarding the powertrain. Volvo said that the T8 range-topper promises to deliver up to 400 hp and 640 Nm of torque and no, it’s not from an 8-cylinder turbocharged engine.

Their new T8 is actually powered by a turbocharged and supercharged 2-litre 4-cylinder Drive-E powerplant driving the front wheels. The Drive-E powerplant is also paired with a 60 kW electric motor that drives the rear wheels, hence what Volvo calls it as the Twin Engine Technology. The T8 is a plug-in hybrid vehicle with full-electric mode range of 40 km, and its CO2 emission is just 60 g/km.
