All-new 2014 Volvo XC90 Interior officially revealed [+Video]

Volvo now officially revealed the replacement to their 12-year-old workhorse, the XC90. Well not the entire car actually, but only the interior of the new XC90. Volvo is going to reveal the rest of the XC90 bit by bit starting with these interior shots, towards the full reveal which is said to be in August. Riding on Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the XC90 is set to provide the latest safety features along with increased interior space.

From these shots you can no longer find the infamous ‘floating’ center stack that has been around for quite some time (which can also be seen in the V40 that we drove earlier this year). Taking center stage in the new interior is the huge tablet-like touch screen contol console which frees up the dashboard from the clutter of multiple knobs and buttons. With this, Volvo promises “an entirely new way for drivers to control their car and access a range of Internet-based products and services”.

The rest of the interior still retains the Scandinavian coolness with the combination fine materials such as soft leather and different finishes of wood. Senior Vice President Research and Development of Volvo Cars, Peter Martens says “Our new interior architecture is pure and uncluttered, while still radiating the sophisticated confidence and formality that luxury SUV customers expect”. Even though the dashboard is now cleaner, they still managed to include some fine detailing to the interior such as the diamond-cut start/stop button and the volume control knob. Not only that, the famous Swedish glass maker Orrefors even provide a special crystal glass gear lever for the XC90.

Retaining the seven-seat configuration from the current XC90, the new XC90 will provide more space with the innovative and ergonomically designed seats with minimal padding but just as comfortable with the seat core shaped to resemble the human spine. All seven seats are equipped with three-point safety belts with pre-tensioners. The fully-powered Comfort seat will allow its occupant to adjust the side bolster, seat cushion extension, multi-directional lumbar support and headrests with optional massage and ventilation functions. Those who want more side support can choose the optional Contour seat too.

Three individual second row seats slide and recline, with the center seat have the option of an integrated child booster cushion. The two seats in the third row is said to offer class-leading comfort for passengers with a height up to 170 cm. They are positioned closer together, slightly overlapping the second row seats so that the third row passengers can also enjoy a clear view forward. The flexible interior includes a plethora of storage options for each occupants, with both second and third row seats can also be folded individually.

With all the interior space, Volvo Cars’ CleanZone air purification system will keep the interior fresh and clean from those small, harmful particles and pollen in the incoming air. Four-zone climate control can be specified with the new XC90 and the separate air-conditioning unit for the third row is standard or optional depending on the market. More details of the new XC90 will be revealed afterwards, so stay tuned with Autobuzz.my!
