Ladies and gentlemen, make way for the new Mercedes-Banz S-Class Coupe, a proper good looking £100,000 two-door machine. This coupe version of the super luxury class in the Mercedes line up has just be officially revealed ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. This gorgeous looking thing is almost identical to the concept which was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year.
The 2014 Mercedes S-Class Coupe is the replacement of the CL coupe and it uses the same engine as its four-door twin. For now, Mercedes will only offer one variant, the S500. It is powered by a twin-turbo 4.7-litre V8, producing 455hp and 700Nm of torque. No official figures on its performance but it should be quicker than the sedan which does 0-100kph in 4.8 sec and a limited top speed of 250kph. Dimension wise, the coupe is 89mm shorter than the saloon and the roofline is lowered by 85mm.
Like the S-Class saloon, the coupe is readied with the Magic Body Control suspension, or “suspension with eyes” as they call it. What it does is, it scans the road ahead for bumps and prepares the ride stiffness of the car accordingly for optimum comfort. This coupe however has something new called ‘curve tilting’ function, world’s first. It leans into bends by tilting individual struts to brace the car, counteracting natural body roll and provides better stability in high speed maneuvers and sharp cornering. This however only works between the speed of 30 and 180 kph.
The coupe does carry some striking details that makes it looks stunning. The mirrored silver front and rear bumper inserts put the right kind of bling on it. From the front, it shares the same 3D pin grille and huge badge as the new A-Class. If you would like to make your S-Class Coupe even more bling than it already is, you can opt for headlights that features 47 Swarovski crytals; 17 for the daytime running lights, and 30 in the turn indicators. This is definitely world’s first.
The S-Class Coupe features the touchpad controller from the new C-Class, which allows smartphone-style gestures to control the infotainment system. It also gets a sportier three-spoke steering wheel, superb looking switchgear, head-up display, and a standard panoramic glass roof which can.. wait for it… become opaque or transparent just at the touch of a button!
The Mercedes Benz S-Class Coupe will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. There is no official words on its pricing but it is speculated to be around £100,000 in the UK. Both the S500 and the S63 AMG will be available in November 2014. The higher range S600 and S65 AMG V12 missile on wheels could be on their way as well.
