The Mercedes-Benz S580e PHEV was launched in Malaysia at the end of 2021, with a current price tag of RM708,888. While we all know of the S-Class, for most of us, it’s only something we only see on the road or through the showroom window so here’s a detailed gallery of every inch and corner of the car for you to immerse yourself in!

At the heart of the S580e lies a M256 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six paired to an electric motor with a combined output of 510 hp and 750 Nm of torque. In case you’re wondering, that’s 34 hp and 50 Nm more than the previous S560e model. Fitted with a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox, the S580e gets from 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds.

With a larger 28.6 kWh lithium-ion battery, the pure electric range is now up to 100 km. In terms of charging, the S580e can take up to 11 kW of AC charging. Using a three-phase AC wallbox charger, it takes up to 2.5 hours to charge the car’s battery up to 80%.

On the outside, the S580e is equipped with 19-inch wheels, pop-out door handles, Digital Light LED headlamps, hands-free powered tailgate, although the boot could do with a little more space. Having batteries tucked in the undercarriage meant that the boot floor is much higher than non-PHEV models, offering limited space for cargo should the S-Class be used for outstation trips. Goes without saying, a hands-free powered tailgate is standard.

Inside is where the S-Class really knocks it out of the park with a tech-filled cabin. For starters, you get a fully digital instrument cluster with 3D effect, 16-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting now with 250 LEDs (40 before), MBUX Interior Assistant, wireless charging front and rear, dual 11-inch touchscreens and a seven-inch Android tablet for the rear passengers.

Also at the rear is what we call a ‘Business Class’ seat but for land travel. That’s cause the rear left seat can be easily extended and reclined at the touch of a button. Imagine the view of the world from inside the S-Class, whether from the windows or the panoramic sunroof; things look merrier! Aside from that, the rear seats also come with seat ventilation and even a calf massage function.

The S-Class is every bit as impressive on the safety and driver assistance front. It comes with 14 airbags including belt bags and rear side and rear seat cushion airbags, park assist, a 360-degree surround view system, autonomous emergency braking (up to 130 km/h), adaptive cruise control with stop and go and lane centering assist. The S580e autonomous driving rating is still rated at Level 2.
