2015 Mitsubishi Triton revealed in Thailand, with new 2.4-litre MIVEC VGT diesel [+Video]

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) unveiled the latest generation Triton, with a range of engines including an all-new 2.4-litre MIVEC VGT diesel. Current Triton is nine years old now and still looks futuristic (for a truck) even today but the game has moved on and Mitsubishi claimed that new Triton was developed to be the “Ultimate Sport Utility Truck”.2015-mitsubishi-triton-24-1

EXTERIOR

On the new Triton, the curvy styling evolves from the current Triton, so some might mistaken it as a facelift job. Although the nose is noticeably different especially with the new grille design, and the headlights incorporate LED daytime running lights as well.

From the side it’s familiarly Triton with its trademark J-line design between the cab and the cargo bed.

INTERIOR

The new interior is even more car-like with updated materials, better sound insulation, and more tech equipment such as the seven-inch head unit with navigation and reverse camera, automatic climate control, and multi-function steering wheel. The drive mode now can be selected by twisting the selector knob on the center console instead of the secondary lever next to the gear lever in the current Triton.

PERFORMANCE

Three different engines will be offered in the new Triton, a 2.4-litre petrol with 126 hp and 194 Nm of torque, a 2.5-litre diesel with 126 hp and 240 Nm of torque or 175 hp with 400 Nm of torque, and the all-new 2.4-litre diesel with 179 hp and 430 Nm of torque.

The new 2.4-litre MIVEC VGT diesel is claimed to be quieter and have 20% better fuel efficiency compared to the 2.5-litre unit. The engines are paired to a choice of five or six speed manual transmission, or a five speed automatic.

WHAT ELSE?

The new Triton will be built in Mitsubishi Motors Thailand Laem Chabang plant in Chonburi and naturally, Thailand will be the first to get the Triton. No Malaysia launch date has been announced yet but expect the new Triton to arrive at our shores in the first quarter of 2015 at the earliest.
