More than six months after its first teaser, Mercedes-Benz has finally released another glimpse of the upcoming G-Class Cabriolet. This latest teaser comes with additional photos and videos, giving us a much better look at the convertible and what to expect ahead of its official debut.
The G-Class Cabrio features a power-operated folding fabric roof that retracts from above the front occupants, and then folds neatly ahead of the spare wheel cover. The setup is largely similar to that of the previous G-Class Cabriolet, though it is expected to feel less open due to the additional roof structure required to meet modern safety standards.
A fixed metal roof section remains over the front occupants, while the prominent central roof bar from the previous G-Class Cabriolet is no longer visible. Instead, it appears to have been repositioned into a more recessed location, rather than protruding into the cabin as it did before.
Moving back, we can also see a slight change compared to the previous prototype. The rear spare tyre compartment has been completely revamped with a redesigned hinge. The sides of the spare tyre cover are now revealed to be in chrome, and the rear brake light is now integrated into the rear spare tyre cover.
Based on the teaser image shown on their social media pages, it also appears that the G-Class Cabriolet will be available at least in the G 63 configuration as well — complete with AMG wheels, bumpers, grille, and signature side exit exhaust. Turn up the audio in the videos; you’ll also hear the unmistakable rumble of the twin-turbo V8. Combined with the open-top design and side-exit exhausts, this could be one of the best ways to enjoy Mercedes-Benz’s iconic V8.

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 features a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 producing 585 hp and 850 Nm of torque. In the latest iteration, the engine is paired with a 48V mild hybrid system with an electric motor integrated within the nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT gearbox for an extra 20 hp. Power is sent to all four wheels (AWD), allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.3 seconds.
Here in Malaysia, the G-Class is priced from RM1,298,000 for the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology to RM1,965,888 for the flagship Mercedes-AMG G 63, both on the road and without insurance. Expect it to command a premium over the hard-top models, though those who have been hoping for a G-Class Cabriolet will likely find the added cost worthwhile.
