Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has launched the fully electric (EV) Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology in Malaysia, priced from RM958,888 on-the-road, without insurance. Two variants are offered at launch:
- Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology – RM958,888
- Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology EDITION ONE – RM998,888
Powering the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology are quad-electric motors, with each individual motor producing 147 hp (108 kW) and an integrated two-speed gearbox. Combined, these four electric motors generate 587 hp and 1,164 Nm of torque. These enable a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.
Equipped with a 116 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the G580 has a range of 473 km (WLTP). Charging is supported with AC charging at 11 kW and DC charging at 200 kW, which enables a 10-80% recharge in 32 minutes.
These are packaged within a reinforced ladder frame chassis designed to protect the battery pack during off-road conditions. The battery pack itself is further protected by a torsion-resistant casing against water and dirt intrusion.

Despite sharing similar underpinnings to its petrol-powered siblings, the G580 retains the double-wishbone front suspension but gets a redesigned rear suspension, which now consists of a De Dion rigid axle.
Despite being an EV now, the G580 in Malaysia is equipped with bespoke off-road functions unique to the G580. These include G-Steering, which significantly reduces the turning circle of the SUV. Additionally, thanks to its quad-motor powertrain, the G580 has the G-Turn functionality, which allows the SUV to turn up to 720-degrees on the spot under specific conditions on unpaved or loose surfaces.
Other off-road features that are included with the G580 include an off-road crawl function, which functions like cruise control for off-road conditions that can function while the SUV is climbing or descending a slope.
For the exterior of the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology, the SUV is almost identical to the internal-combustion powered G-Class with some notable differences. These include a new black-panel radiator grille with lighting elements surrounding it and a storage box located at the rear of the G580 in place of the externally mounted spare tyre. Other exterior features of the G580 in Malaysia include:
- 20-inch AMG 10-spoke light alloy wheels
- Illuminated door sill trims in stainless steel
- Multibeam LED headlights
- Silver EQ badges on the front fender
- Sunroof
- Side running boards
- Side mirror housings in obsidian black
- External protective strips with black pinstripe
Stepping up to the Edition One variant sees the exterior gain the following equipment:
- Manufaktur logo projector in the side mirror
- Manufaktur door handle in black with embossed logo
- Manufaktur logo package in black
- Brake callipers painted in blue
- Manufaktur running boards in black
- Exterior protective strip with trim insert and blue accent
- Exterior mirror housings in matt black
Similar to the exterior, the G580 interior is also similar to its fossil-fueled powered siblings. The dashboard of the G580 features the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system, which has a separate 12.3-inch segment for the main touchscreen infotainment display and the driver’s digital gauge cluster. Other internal features of the G580 in Malaysia include:

Stepping up to the Edition One variant sees the interior gain the following equipment:

- Manufaktur grab handles in leather
- AMG floor mats in black with contrasting blue topstitching
- Blue carbon fibre trim elements
- Nappa leather upholstery in silver pearl and black
For safety features, the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology is equipped with a suite of ADAS features, which include parking assist with Parktronic, Active parking assist with Parktronic, blind spot assist, active steering assist, transparent bonnet, and a 360-degree camera.
The Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology is priced at RM958,888, and the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology EDITION ONE is priced at RM998,888. Included in the price is a wallbox charger with installation included.
