Chery Corporate Malaysia (Chery Malaysia) has teamed up with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) to launch “Cherish the Nature”. This 18-month project aims to restore mangroves along the north-central Selangor Coast (NCSC), a 130 km stretch of mudflats that serves as a high-traffic transit hub for 50,000 migratory shorebirds.
Restoration efforts are centred on the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, home to the endangered Silvered Leaf Monkey and the Milky Stork. These mangroves provide the primary habitat for the fireflies and marine resources that sustain local tourism and fishing villages. Anthropogenic pressures, specifically land-use changes and clearing, have already triggered a loss of forest cover along this coastline.
IUCN’s science-backed tools will identify priority sites for rehabilitation. These areas will be replanted with mangrove saplings grown in community-run nurseries, effectively employing the local population to repair the damage caused by human expansion.
At least six hectares of degraded land will be restored by trained community members who blend scientific data with traditional ecological knowledge. Post-planting monitoring and evaluation will follow to ensure the saplings actually grow rather than becoming another failed environmental statistic.

The launch was attended by 200 guests, including government agencies, academic institutions, and local communities. Members from Chery’s owner group, WCWL, and the Omoda Jaecoo J-Club also joined the citizen science and mangrove planting activities alongside representatives from IUCN, Chery, and MNS.
In related news, Chery Malaysia recorded 12,930 units sold in 2025 and is scheduled to launch four new models in 2026. While not explicitly named, the upcoming line-up is expected to include the Tiggo 9 flagship SUV in the second quarter. Other anticipated arrivals for the year include the Omoda C7 and a second facelift for the Chery O5, though it remains unclear if the C7 will be sold under the Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia umbrella.
The year is then expected to close with a refreshed Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) model. It’s all speculation for now, but this could simply be the PHEV variant of the Tiggo 9, or we might even see the introduction of the all-new second-generation Tiggo 8 to bring the line-up in line with its updated global siblings. Nonetheless, we will have to wait for Chery Malaysia to reveal more info when the time comes.
