Meet the Smart #6, the brand’s first sedan with a hybrid range of over 1,800 km

As if an SUV isn’t surprising enough, Smart is continuing its wholesale transformation with this – the Smart #6, the brand’s first-ever sedan and officially the biggest model in its history.

Measuring 4,906 mm long, 1,922 mm wide, and 1,508 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,926 mm. The Smart #6 is both longer and wider than the Smart #5 in Malaysia, although obviously more squat due to its sedan bodystyle. And how about this for a fun fact: The #6 is so long that you could almost fit two of the original Smart ForTwo hatchbacks bumper-to-bumper within the span of its length.

Despite being a sedan, the #6 is still clearly a member of the Smart family. It shares distinctive design cues with its siblings, evident in the side mirrors, alloy wheels, and lighting signatures. Other standout exterior features include a retractable rear spoiler, flush door handles, fender-mounted cameras, and a LiDAR sensor on the roof to support the car’s ADAS features.

Smart has only released photos of the new Smart #6 exterior on its Weibo page, with no interior images revealed just yet. However, based on its length and wheelbase, we can expect an interior that is comparable to – if not roomier than – that of the Smart #5.

Powering the Smart #6 is the carmaker’s EHD (Electric Hybrid Drive) plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. This makes the #6 the brand’s second hybrid model, following the Smart #5 EHD.

Like its SUV sibling, the Smart #6 EHD features a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 163 hp, paired with a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). Together, the system delivers a combined output of 435 hp (320 kW).

While specific battery capacity figures have not been disclosed, Smart claims the #6 is capable of covering 285 km on pure electric power alone. When the internal combustion engine kicks in, the sedan boasts a combined range of 1,810 km, with a rated fuel consumption of just 3.9L/100 km.

However, as you might have guessed, these impressive figures are calculated using China’s optimistic CLTC test cycle.

According to a report by Motor1, the Smart #6 is set to launch in China next year, in 2026. Don’t worry though, as they’ve not completely forgotten its roots: the company will also be bringing back the iconic Smart Fortwo, which will return as the all-electric ‘Smart #2’ in late 2026.
