Yes, you read that right. The Concept AMG GT XX has just travelled 40,075 km—the equivalent of the Earth’s circumference at the equator—in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes, and 7 seconds. And no, the team didn’t literally drive the car around the world. Instead, this incredible feat was achieved on the 12.68 km Nardo circuit in Italy.
But here’s the most impressive part: it wasn’t just one Concept AMG GT XX that completed this globe-trotting marathon. It was two. Both vehicles set off simultaneously and, after circumnavigating the globe on the track, they crossed the finish line just 25 kilometres apart.
During the run, the Concept AMG GT XX broke 25 long-distance records. Among them was the record for the greatest distance covered by an electric vehicle in 24 hours, where it achieved 5,479 km, surpassing the previous 3,961 km record set by the XPeng P7.
The logistics of the run were immense. A team of 17 drivers, including Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team driver George Russell, took the wheel in two-hour stints. They lapped the Nardo circuit 3,177 times at a constant speed of 300 km/h, only stopping for ultra-fast 850 kW recharging sessions and tyre changes before heading back out.

But why 300 km/h when the Concept AMG GT XX can reach a top speed of 360 km/h? According to the geeks at Mercedes-AMG, 300 km/h offered the optimal balance between track speed and charging stops to deliver the fastest overall time—or so they say.
This relentless pace, which saw the car travel for more than 5,300 km on average per day, was maintained even when ambient temperatures reached up to 35 degrees Celsius, with track temperatures soaring even higher under the direct Italian sunlight. And yet, the Concept AMG GT XX’s 114 kWh battery pack took it like a champ and performed flawlessly, according to the engineers.
Built on the AMG.EA electric platform, the production model of the AMG GT XX, alongside an SUV, will be unveiled in 2027.
The AMG.EA electric platform allows the Concept AMG GT XX to be equipped with an advanced tri-motor powertrain capable of producing 1,360 hp. While Mercedes-AMG has not provided official range specifications, it has stated that the 114 kWh battery pack can support 850 kW DC fast charging, which enables the car to regain 400 km of range in just five minutes of plugging in.
