Chery Group is now the first Chinese car company to export five million vehicles. The company says that it has over 17.18 million customers worldwide, including 5.17 million outside of China.
According to various posts by Chery’s official Weibo account, Chery recorded a total of 1.48 million vehicles sold in the first seven months of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 14.5%. Among that population of vehicles sold, 669,360 of those were exported to other markets — solidifying its status as the top exporter in China.
In July alone, Chery sold 224,439 vehicles, marking a 14.7% year-on-year increase. This included 65,357 new energy vehicles (NEVs), up 44.1% from the same month last year. Exports also remained strong, with 119,090 vehicles shipped overseas — a 31.9% increase year-on-year.
According to Yiche, as reported by CarNewsChina, the top three destinations for Chery vehicle exports in the first half of 2025 were Mexico, the UAE, and Russia — exporting a total of 234,500 units, 214,300 units, and 171,000 units, respectively.
Sales performance also remained positive, with Mexico seeing a year-on-year increase of 30.7%, the UAE surged by 58.5%, although sales in Russia saw a sharp decline of 59.2%. Despite this, Chery’s strong overall performance earned it the 233rd spot on the Fortune Global 500 — a 152-place jump from last year.

While it’s all sunshine and rainbows for Chery for now, BYD is closing in fast, now ranking second on the same list. In terms of exports, BYD saw an increase of 118.2% year-on-year with 443,098 vehicles shipped overseas in H1 2025.
Though still placed at the top spot, Chery only saw a 3.5% improvement year-on-year with a total of 544,937 vehicles exported in the same time period. If BYD continues to grow at this pace, the Shenzhen-based carmaker could soon take the crown as China’s top vehicle exporter.
