BYD was Singapore’s best-selling car brand in the first half of 2025, according to data from the country’s Land Transport Authority. With 4,667 units sold, the Chinese EV marque has surpassed Toyota’s 3,461 units to place it in the top spot in the sales chart.
BYD now holds a 19.5% market share in Singapore — a notable jump from 13.9% in the same period last year, when it registered 2,587 units. It also recorded the largest year-on-year market share gain among all brands, rising by 5.6%.
Toyota, on the other hand, is placed second with 14.4% market share — up from last year’s 3,165 units registered. Despite an increase in sales, the brand saw a 2.6% decline in market share from 17% in H1 2024.
BMW is placed third with 11.1% market share, where they sold 2,664 units — more than last year’s 2,523. However, the brand also saw a 2.5% decrease in market share from 13.6% to 11.1% in H1 2025.

The total number of new cars registered in Singapore in H1 2025 was 23,957 – 29% higher than the 18,576 units for the same period last year.
Speaking to The Straits Times, Chairman of automotive dealership group Prime, and honorary adviser to the Automobile Importer and Exporter Association, Neo Nam Heng, explained that the slowdown of sales from legacy brands is due to a lack of EV options, and intensified competition from authorised dealers.

A total of 53 car brands registered new vehicles in the first half of 2025, up from 48 during the same period last year. The report also highlighted that new players have been taking a sizeable market share — with Aion and Xpeng securing the 11th and 12th spots, recording 466 and 376 registrations respectively.
The success of Chinese EV brands in Singapore can also be attributed to lower purchasing costs, driven by government incentives that offer rebates of up to SGD40,000. “In another two to three years, if this uneven playing field remains, Chinese car brands will dominate the Singapore market,” Neo added.
