Porsche celebrates 1 million units of the Macan as EV model rises in popularity

The Porsche Macan has just hit its one-million-unit milestone at the Leipzig plant last week. As announced in a press release, this milestone was reached in just 12 years after its introduction, making it the fastest-selling Porsche model in history.

For comparison, the Porsche Cayenne, the Macan’s bigger brother, hit the big “M” milestone in 18 years in 2020. The 911, on the other hand, managed to do the same in a much longer 53 years, back in 2017

The achievement is significantly boosted by the 82,795 units of the Macan that Porsche sold last year. And in the first half of 2025 alone, 45,137 units were delivered to new owners — 57% of which were of the electric variant.

Despite Porsche phasing out the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant of the Macan in favour of the fully electric model that launched last year, it has not stopped it from achieving the title of the best-selling Porsche model.

Porsche says the Macan is “inseparably linked to Leipzig”. Since it was initially chosen to be produced at the Leipzig factory back in 2011, the Macan’s popularity has led to the extensive expansion of the factory and has since generated 1,500 new jobs. Now, the car is kickstarting the plant’s entry into the era of electromobility with the electric Macan.

Chairman of the Management Board of Porsche Leipzig, Gerd Rupp, said, “With the Macan, Porsche has developed over the past 12 years into one of the most important economic drivers and employers in the Central Germany region.”

The one millionth unit of the Porsche Macan came in the form of a Macan 4 in Frozen Blue Metallic, and was delivered to a lucky customer from Kiel in Germany. Notable equipment includes Black and Chalk two-tone leather interior, Adaptive Sports Seats, and a head-up display with augmented reality technology.

The Macan 4 is powered by dual electric motors, one on each axle, producing a combined 408 hp and 650 Nm. It does 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km/h. A 100 kWh battery powers the setup, delivering up to 612 km of WLTP-rated range.

In Malaysia, the all-electric Porsche Macan is offered in four variants: Macan, Macan 4, Macan 4S, and Macan Turbo. Prices start from RM430,000 for the base model and go up to RM635,000 for the flagship Turbo, on-the-road and without insurance.
