Video: 2024 Neta X, from RM120k for BYD Atto 3 rival

Suppose your only memory of the Neta brand is its super compact EV, the Neta V, you might want to check out its latest offering in Malaysia, which is the Neta X. Just launched this week, the Neta X is available in three variants, with prices starting from RM119,888.

It is about the size of the BYD Atto 3 and the Chery Omoda E5, and is priced rather competitively too. All three variants look pretty much the same and it is a generally decent-looking SUV. There is nothing too striking about it on the outside, except for its closed-off EV front end. If you haven’t heard of the Neta X at all, allow us to guide you with this quick walkaround video:

All 3 variants of the Neta X are powered by the same single-motor front-wheel drive (FWD) setup which outputs 163 hp (metric) and 210 Nm. The Neta X is by no means a fast EV as it does 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, onward to a top speed of 150 km/h. The average single-motor Ev tends to be 2 seconds quicker in the century sprint.

As for its battery and range, there are two battery sizes for the Neta X. The 400 Comfort and 400 Luxury both get the same 52.49 kWh battery that allows for a range of 401 km (NEDC). The 500 Luxury, on the other hand, gets a larger 64.14 kWh battery that allows for a 480 km range (NEDC).

Across the board, the Neta X is only capable of single-phase AC charging with a maximum rate of 6.6 kW. It takes about 9 hours to fully charge the car. The Neta X’s DC charging rate is not specified, but Neta says that it takes about 30 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.

Inside, the Neta X has a typical Chinese EV setup with a huge infotainment screen and a simple rectangular instrument cluster. The head unit measures 15.6 inches in size and comes with its own navigation system, a 360° view, and Apple CarPlay. Both front seats are power-adjustable, although only the driver seat comes with memory functions.

The complete suite of advanced safety features is only available on the Luxury variants (400 and 500). Safety items on the Neta X include Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Intelligent Cruise Assistance (ICA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), and Emergency Lane Keep System (ELKS).
