Tesla Premium Connectivity launched in Malaysia – RM35.99/mo to access Netflix without hotspot

Tesla has officially launched the Premium Connectivity expanded internet connectivity service for its cars here in Malaysia, priced at RM35.99 per month.

The Premium Connectivity subscription will enable customers to access audio and video streaming services directly from the car’s on-board displays, without the need to utilise a mobile hotspot or separate Wi-Fi connection. Some of these streaming services, such as Netflix, will still require a separate subscription.

The Premium Connectivity subscription also adds several exclusive functionalities, including live traffic visualisation and satellite views on the on-board maps and navigation system of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.

Tesla owners in Malaysia can subscribe to the Premium Connectivity package directly through the Tesla mobile app, billed automatically via the payment method specified within the app. A 30-day free trial is also offered for every Tesla purchase, and will be activated beginning on the day of delivery.

All Tesla models will still come included with Standard Connectivity, at no cost for the first eight years, that provides access to over-the-air updates, basic maps and navigation, as well as voice command features.

Most entertainment features, including streaming services, games, internet browser, and Caraoke, will also still be accessible via a mobile hotspot or separate Wi-Fi connection.

Tesla does not specify the data usage cap on the Premium Connectivity subscription, but does note that they can “reduce connectivity bandwidth”, or throttle your connection, if “data usage is deemed as excessive and exceeds a fair daily usage”.
