Remember the Mitsubishi Colt? It is now a rebadged Renault Clio

Mitsubishi Motor Corporation has just unveiled the all-new Mitsubishi Colt and it is essentially a Renault Clio. You may have seen the old Mitsubishi Colt in Malaysia some years ago, but the little hatchback is no longer available in the country. The car has now been revived (for the European market), albeit with French genes.

Just like the previously unveiled all-new Mitsubishi ASX, the Mitsubishi Colt is based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-B platform. Just in case you have forgotten, the all-new ASX (for Europe) shares the same underpinnings as the Renault Captur. The all-new Mitsubishi Colt will be manufactured at Renault’s Bursa plant in Turkey and is scheduled to be in European showrooms by October this year. The Colt will be reintroduced to the European market for the first time in nine years.

With its bodylines still unmistakably a Renault Clio, the Mitsubishi Colt slaps on the brand’s Dynamic Shield look upfront together with the brand’s emblem. The grille sits between a set of full LED headlights and the front end is also adorned with L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs). At the back, a “Mitsubishi” lettering runs across the tailgate.

Powering the all-new Mitsubishi Colt are three powertrain options. The first is a mild hybrid system that consists of a 1.6-litre gasoline engine and 2 electric motors (alternator-starter and main motor). The engine is paired with an automatic multi-mode gearbox, and there is a 1.2-kWh battery as part of the hybrid system. The other two powertrain options are a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine with a 6-speed manual box and a 1.0-litre engine with a 5-speed manual box.

Inside, the all-new Colt is equipped with either a 7-inch or 9.3-inch touchscreen head unit, depending on the variant. Certain trim levels are equipped with a Bose premium sound system.

Safety-wise, the all-new Mitsubishi Colt is equipped with a decent array of advanced safety features. These include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go (ACC), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Easy Park Assist, Forward Collision Mitigation system (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Traffic Sign Recognition system (TSR), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

In Malaysia, Mitsubishi’s model lineup only consists of the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck and the Mitsubishi Xpander.
