The new BMW iX3 Neue Klasse recently made its global debut with a claimed range of 805 km under the WLTP testing cycle. While that may seem pretty impressive by today’s standards, BMW, in true German fashion, wanted to find out just how far the SUV could go in real-world conditions on public roads.
The result? The new BMW iX3 travelled a total of 1,007.7 km on a single charge, driven from Debrecen, Hungary, where the new iX3 is built, all the way to BMW’s headquarters in Munich, Germany.
To achieve this efficiency, the team avoided highways as much as possible, travelling mostly on smaller roads, as higher speeds would result in significantly greater air resistance. To further improve efficiency without physically tampering with the vehicle, the iX3 rode on smaller 20-inch wheels instead of the larger 21- or 22-inch options, reducing unsprung weight and improving aerodynamics.
When it eventually reached the BMW headquarters in Munich, having achieved 1007.7 km in a single charge, the car still had 2% battery remaining, meaning it could likely have covered another 20 km before the battery was fully depleted.
The 108.7 kWh lithium-ion battery is built on an 800V architecture, which allows the SUV to support DC fast charging at up to 400 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in just 21 minutes, or up to 372 km of range added in 10 minutes. For more typical use cases, the car also supports AC charging at up to 22 kW, allowing a full charge in around five hours and 45 minutes.

While the video highlighted the efficiency of the BMW iX3, the SUV also boasts rather respectable performance figures. In the iX3 50 xDrive launch configuration, the car sports a dual-motor configuration — providing a total system output of 469 hp (345 kW) and 645 Nm of torque. This allows for a 0-100 km/h sprint time in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h.
As we await the arrival of the new BMW iX3 Neue Klasse in our market, BMW has confirmed that the first units are scheduled to roll off the production line in autumn 2025. The company also promised more variants, including a new entry-level model. The market launch will begin in Europe in spring 2026, with the US following in summer 2026. China is also set to receive its own version that is scheduled to debut sometime in summer 2026.
