BMW Group Malaysia has partnered with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) to launch the BMW Next Generation Technician programme (BMW NextGT). This initiative aims to equip the next generation of automotive technicians with skills and expertise in electric vehicle (EV) technology, meeting the evolving demands of the automotive industry, the company says.
The BMW NextGT programme is scheduled to roll out in 2026, beginning with a collaboration involving Auto Bavaria, Millennium Welt, and Quill Automobiles as initial dealer partners, with plans to extend the initiative to additional BMW dealers from 2027 onwards.
BMW NextGT is an initiative of BMW Group Malaysia to cultivate a top-tier technical workforce prepared for the developing automotive industry, drawing foundations from the existing BMW Technical Training Programme (BTTP) and BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) certification programme, which was led by the BMW Group Regional Training Centre.
The collaboration marks another milestone for BMW Group Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to nurture local talent and build a sustainable and future-ready automotive ecosystem.

As part of the collaboration, automotive technical trainers from STDC will undergo extensive, hands-on training developed under the BMW Technician Qualification Framework, featuring specialised modules on modern automotive technologies and concepts.
Upon completion, these trainers will deliver their newly gained expertise to qualified vocational students enrolled in the BMW NextGT programme, who will graduate armed with industry-standard knowledge and skills in both conventional and electrified vehicle technologies.
BMW Group Malaysia, Managing Director, Benjamin Nagel, said, “Today, the automotive industry is undergoing its most transformative era, and with it comes the need for a workforce that can drive this innovation forward. Our collaboration with STDC through the BMW NextGT programme is built on the foundation of belief that investing in education and technical development is key to shaping the Future of Mobility in Malaysia.”
“By empowering trainers and students with the skills and knowledge aligned with BMW’s global standards, we are cultivating the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards the future of the automotive industry here,” he added.
