Heads up to anyone visiting Petaling Jaya (PJ) regularly: the red-outlined reserved parking bays across PJ, sometimes labelled ‘Sewa Khas‘, will be converted to “24-hour reserved bays” starting in 2026, as reported by The Star.
This will be a big change from the current system, where the red-marked bays are only reserved during office hours (8.30 am to 5.30 pm), allowing the public to use them outside those time periods, on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), and on public holidays.
Speaking to The Star, Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said approximately 1,000 existing reserved bays will be converted. To establish a clear standard, all 24-hour reserved bays will be have a red outline, while the 54 existing blue-lined bays that were previously designated as “24 hour bays” will be phased out and repainted in the same colour.
In total, 1,054 of these 24-hour red bays will be available for rent from the council, with monthly fees set at RM400.
On a related note, the Petaling Jaya City Council has also increased the maximum compound rate for violations in reserved parking bays from RM100 previously to RM300 currently. This new rate has been in effect since September 1, 2025.
