Despite debuting just four years ago, Mercedes-Benz is reportedly set to end the production of its EQE sedan and SUV models by 2026. According to Autocar, the move is a result of the company’s plans to completely revamp its electric vehicle (EV) line-up, following less-than-stellar sales for its current models.
Replacing the EQE models will be new EVs as part of the carmaker’s most ambitious launch programme in history, debuting alongside their petrol-powered counterparts. The first of such has already been revealed in the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA, and will be followed up by the upcoming fully electric C-Class EQ and GLC EQ models, which will indirectly replace the EQE sedan and SUV models for now.
The upcoming C-Class EQ and GLC EQ models are expected to feature the company’s new 800-volt MB.EA-M platform – promising improved packaging, enhanced practicality, and a chassis setup on par with their EQE siblings.
Set to debut at the 2025 Munich Motor Show next week, the new GLC SUV will show off the brand’s new front grille design and feature more storage space, the latter comprising a boot that can engulf up to 570 litres of cargo alongside a 128-litre frunk, compared to the 520-litre boot on the EQE SUV.
The electric SUV will also come with 320 kW DC fast charging – enabling the car to regain 260 km of range with just 10 minutes of charging. On the other hand, the C-Class EQ sedan – due in 2026 – will also offer technology comparable to the EQE sedan, including options such as air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

Mercedes-Benz did not confirm if the EQE will be facing the chopping block by next year. A spokesperson told the publication that the company has a policy not to entertain speculation regarding their current or future models.
That said, the same spokesperson did however confirm that the successor to the EQE sedan, namely the E-Class EQ sedan, is currently under development and is slated to debut sometime in 2027. This model is reportedly set to be constructed on the same MB.EA-M platform as the upcoming C-Class EQ and GLC EQ.
