Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has begun testing of its new Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) at Level 5 (departure drop-off) and Level 3 (arrival pick-up) of Terminal 1. The trial period will run from 1 September to 30 November, 2025.
This system is designed to improve traffic flow, safety, and provide smoother access to the terminals, especially during peak hours, Malaysia Airports said in a press release.

VAMS will utilise barrier gates at the entry and exit of the drop-off and pick-up lanes at KLIA Terminal 1, with timed access to ease congestion caused by unauthorised or prolonged kerb-side stops at the terminals. During the testing period, Vehicles are given a 10-minute grace period for drop-offs and pick-ups, with the system monitoring those that remain beyond the time limit.
No penalty fee will be incurred for those who exceed the 10-minute window during the testing period; the airport management will utilise the system to monitor traffic patterns, driver behaviour, and overall performance to determine an optimal grace period and penalty fee structure before full implementation.
While some parties have reported on the entry requirement via credit card or Touch n Go card, Malaysia Airports clarified in a Facebook post that the information is false, and reiterated that no penalties will be imposed during the trial period.

While the testing is currently limited to Terminal 1 of KLIA for now, Terminal 2 is also scheduled to undergo the same VAMS trial period, starting from 15 September to 30 November.
Malaysia Airports Managing Director, Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, said, “Airports worldwide are adopting smarter kerbside management to reduce congestion and elevate the passenger experience. At KLIA, our goal is to create a safer, more efficient, and passenger-friendly airport environment.”
“The terminal is often travellers’ first and final impression of Malaysia, and we want that to reflect our hospitality and efficiency, particularly as we prepare for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he added.
