Chery Malaysia has now opened the order books for the facelifted 2025 Chery O5—a model previously known in Malaysia as the Chery Omoda 5.
Interestingly, the naming strategy for this facelift differs across various markets. In Australia and Russia, for example, the same car is known as the Omoda C5. As for why it’s being called the Chery O5 in Malaysia, the ‘Omoda’ branding is likely removed to avoid confusing its customers, given that the model is marketed under the Chery brand here, rather than by Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia.
Nevertheless, the facelifted Omoda O5 introduces a restyled exterior with a reinterpretation of Chery’s “Art in Motion” design language. This features a new and more compact diamond-patterned front grille, new daytime running lights (DRLs) now sharing the same design as those on the fully-electric Chery Omoda E5, and new designs for the 18-inch alloy wheels.
Chery Malaysia only provided a single front-facing photo of the facelifted Omoda O5. However, if the rest of the exterior of the Malaysian version matches those sold in the Australian and Russian markets, it should also mean that the controversial red accents found on the outgoing Omoda 5 have been omitted here for a cleaner look.

What’s confirmed here is the new powertrain setup beneath the new design, consisting of a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a new six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that drives the front wheels, replacing the previous CVT gearbox. The rear suspension layout has also been revised, now featuring a more sophisticated multi-link system in place of the old torsion beam setup.
While Chery Malaysia has not disclosed official powertrain specifications, we guess that it should retain its current outputs of 156 hp and 230 Nm, from its previous powertrain configuration.
Inside, the Omoda O5 will most likely reflect the outgoing model’s interior, which consists of a 20.5-inch integrated display, with 10.25-inch segments for the infotainment display and driver’s digital gauge cluster. Other interior features include a wireless charging pad, dual-zone automatic climate control, faux leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats.
For safety features, the Omoda O5 is equipped with six airbags, a 540-degree surround view camera system, and a suite of ADAS features which include adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow and traffic jam assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitors, and rear-cross traffic alert.
Chery Malaysia has not yet provided official pricing for the new Omoda O5. But for context, the outgoing model is priced at RM99,800 and RM118,800 for the two variants; it is likely that the new O5 will be offered in a similar range.
The company has confirmed that the model will be launched sometime this month, and interested customers can sign up for early test drives through the Chery Malaysia website, linked here.
