Lewis Hamilton says the Ferrari F80 is “the fastest road car I’ve ever been in”

Lewis Hamilton’s historic move to Ferrari means more than just driving around racetracks in the red racecar, because he now also has access to some of the best supercars around. One of such supercar is the Ferrari F80, which the Formula 1 driver got to take it around the company’s Fiorano racetrack for a spin – and as you’d expect, he has great things to say about the car.

In fact, Hamilton even called it “the fastest road car I’ve ever been in”, which is quite the statement considering the seven-time world champion has driven – and own – some of the fastest cars on the planet, including the Pagani Zonda 760LH (his own custom-built model), and the Nurburgring lap record-breaking Mercedes-AMG One from his previous employer.

Teammate Charles Leclerc also joined in on the fun that day, and had glowing reviews for the car. He mentioned that “in terms of balance, I think it’s the best car ever”, and also praised the car’s brakes, lightweight-ness, agile steering, and aerodynamics.

The Ferrari F80 is the most powerful road car Maranello has ever made (to date), with its 3.0-litre V6, two electric motors, and electronic twin-turbos combined to make a mind-bending 1,200 hp and 850 Nm. The result? A spring from 0-100 km/h takes just 2.15 seconds; 0-200 km/h is done in 5.75 seconds, and it’ll also reach a top speed of 350 km/h.

All 799 units of the hybrid monster are already spoken for, even before it made its debut back in October last year. But when a seven-time Formula 1 World Champion asks for one, I’m sure Ferrari would be able to make something work, right?

On a side note, it’s refreshing to see that even Formula 1 drivers get scared in the passenger seat. Even though they’re used to driving around at speeds in excess of 300 km/h, sitting in the passenger seat of someone else’s car can still feel too fast when you’re not in control!
