The gorgeous BMW Concept Speedtop is the future of Bavarian design we were all hoping for

BMW has unveiled the BMW Concept Speedtop at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2025, a combination of a sporty touring car with the style of a shooting brake. Fitted with BMW’s most powerful V8, BMW Brand and Product Senior Vice President, Bernd Körber, confirmed that they will be making a limited run of 70 units for the Concept Speedtop.

If you can recall the Concept Skytop from last year’s event, this Concept Speedtop is essentially the solid-roof counterpart to that car, and as such shares most of its design language with the cabriolet. The shooting brake shape is accentuated through the changing colour gradient of the roof – also available on the Skytop – transitioning gradually from “Floating Sunstone Maroon” to “Floating Sundown Silver”.

A central spline stretches from the bonnet to the rear spoiler of the car to emphasise its dynamic touring profile. To match its bold looks, BMW has also given the Concept Speedtop with exclusive two-tone 14 spoke rims, along with the thinnest rear lights on a BMW ever taken directly from last year’s Skytop.

Inside, it bears a similar layout to the car it was based on—the BMW M8 Competition. Apart from the parts carried over from the 8 Series, you’ll find it hard to spot any surfaces that are not draped in luxurious leather.

The interior features a two-tone colour scheme with the brown tone of the exterior – called “Sundown Maroon” carrying over into the interior as accents, and tastefully paired with “Moonstone White”. Illuminating this gorgeous interior is a singular light beam on the headliner that mirrors the centre spline from the exterior.

Though not seen by the passengers most of the time, BMW has also given the boot the same treatment by having it completely lined with the same quality of two-tone leather. Illuminated with a singular light beam as well, it is divided into two sections for storage convenience.

With the added convenience of storage spaces, the BMW Concept Speedtop also comes with a custom designer bag from Schedoni – a traditional Italian manufacturer of bags that specialises in the production of high quality leather goods by hand. According to BMW, they stand for the highest quality and customisation in the automotive industry.

BMW says the Speedtop will be fitted with the most powerful V8 in their existing portfolio. We suspect that this engine will be from the BMW M5 CS.

For reference, the M5 CS features a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 635 hp and 750 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via the M xDrive system through an eight-speed Steptronic M gearbox. The car goes from 0-100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds with a top speed of 305 km/h.

BMW’s recent design direction, especially the controversial “Beaver Tooth” grille, has left fans divided. For some, the styling is a dealbreaker; for others, it’s simply part of the brand’s evolution. But the Concept Speedtop rises above that debate. The limited production Concept captures the true essence of BMW—blending elegance, innovation, and identity in a way few recent models have. It’s hard to imagine any enthusiast turning away from a car that so clearly reflects what the brand stands for.

As mentioned above, only 70 units will be made. This means the car won’t come cheap just like the Concept Skytop that also had a limited run of just 50 units. For now, we can only hope for this bold design language to make its way into more accessible models in the near future.
