It doesn’t take a detective to notice that lately, Chinese cars – especially those in the crossover segment – have been taking Malaysian roads by storm. Each model has a unique way of standing out: The BYD Atto 3 and Seal look like starships, the Xpeng X9 with the look of a planetary rover, and our main focus of the day, the GAC GS3 Emzoom, looking like something that is straight out from a mecha anime!
No, we wish we were kidding when we said that. If you compare the looks of the GAC GS3 Emzoom and the precious GAC GS3, it distances itself away from the generic crossover shape and dons a more angular and edgy aesthetic instead.
Everywhere you look, triangular design elements can be seen on every panel, including the headlights and taillights. Orange accents garnish the grille, front and rear bumpers to give it a more fierce look. Even the single brake light on the spoiler looks exceptionally good. If anything, it looks more like a mecha from an anime than a typical car.
But on the inside, things are much different. The interior of the GAC GS3 Emzoom is tasteful with soft touch trim, two-tone seats, a 10.25-inch head unit and 7-inch digital display cluster, and a futuristic-looking gear shift knob with a crystal embedded in it.
WATCH: The GAC GS3 Emzoom is not just “another crossover”!

The GAC GS3 Emzoom comes in a diverse selection of engine and drivetrain configurations, as long as it’s a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 177 hp and 270 Nm of torque connected to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) drivetrain.
With those engine performance numbers, from a standstill, it goes from 0-100 km/h in exactly eight seconds before it tops out at 190 km/h. In addition, GAC says that the GS3 Emzoom’s claimed fuel consumption rate averages at 5.9l/100 km.
So, how does it drive? Is it as good as it looks? Well, watch what our presenter have to say about it and find out yourself!
