It’s not uncommon to have leaders of other nations give gifts to other leaders. In the case of Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he was recently gifted a Togg T10X – a Turkish electric vehicle (EV) SUV from Turkish EV company Togg – by Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to his Facebook post.
The EV SUV, gifted by Erdogan during his two-day visit, serves as a token of friendship between Malaysia and Turkey. Anwar says that he views the car as a gift to the country and not to him, adding that the EV SUV will be “returned” to the country at the end of his Prime Ministership.
The Togg T10X was driven by Anwar to the Seri Perdana with Erdogan in the passenger seat. Because Turkiye is a left-hand drive (LHD) market that drives on the right, the car that Anwar received is also LHD with the steering wheel on the left and passenger seat on the right.
Togg is a Turkish EV brand started in 2018, and it is Turkiye’s first domestic EV carmaker. The Togg T10X EV SUV is the company’s first EV launched in 2023. It is a C-segment EV SUV, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Proton eMAS 7.
There are three variants available for the Togg T10X, the V1 RWD Standard Range, V1 RWD Long Range, and V2 RWD Long Range. All variants have 218 hp and 350 Nm of torque in a rear-wheel drive setup, and a top speed of 185 km/h.
The base model Standard Range has a WLTP-rated 314 km EV range from the 52.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The Long Range V1 and V2 variants meanwhile share the same 523 km WLTP EV range from the larger 88.4 kWh battery pack.
All variants in both battery pack configurations support 11 kW AC charging and 180 kW DC charging. While DC charging takes 28 minutes to charge from 20%-80%, AC charging takes over three hours and 15 minutes to juice the Standard Range up from 20%-80%, and about five hours and 45 minutes for the Long Range to do the same.
In Turkiye, the V1 Standard Range starts at TRY1.440 million (approx. RM178k). The V1 and V2 Long Range goes for TRY1.680 million (approx. RM208k) and TRY1.830 million (approx. RM226k) respectively.
