Smart has officially launched the Smart #5 electric SUV in China, with prices ranging from CNY239,900 to CNY368,000 (approx. RM147k to RM225k). It is available in four variants:
- Long Range Adventure Standard Edition (RWD)
- Long Range Adventure Deluxe Edition (RWD)
- Ultra-long Range Deluxe Edition (RWD)
- Jungle Realm Limited Edition (AWD)
As the brand’s largest model to date, the Smart #5 measures 4,705 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,705 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Ground clearance varies from 156 mm to 231 mm depending on the variant.
The Smart #5’s exterior, shaped by a new “Sensual and Sharp” design philosophy, blends a boxy silhouette with sleek lines, resulting in a distinctive appearance. Its side profile, in particular, evokes a resemblance to the Mercedes-Benz GLB – which shouldn’t be too surprising since it’s also the work of the three pointed star’s chief design officer Gorden Wagener!
Inside, the Smart #5 boasts a 25.6-inch AR-HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display), a 10.3-inch LCD instrument panel, and dual 13-inch AMOLED 2.5K screens for the central controls and co-pilot entertainment, all powered by an AMD V2000 chip. RWD variants get a nine-speaker setup, while the AWD variant boasts a premium Sennheiser sound system.
Also available in the Smart #5 interior are multiple storage spaces, which include a 72-litre front trunk and 110-litre “bottom hidden space” in the rear boot. Boot space is 630 litres and can be expanded to 1,530 litres.
The boot is also equipped with a 220V power interface, enabling the V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) to use the car’s battery to power external devices and appliances. Furthermore, the Smart #5 boasts a unique feature: a 233-inch automotive-grade full-color laser projector.
The Smart #5, built on Geely’s 800V PMA2+ platform, allows for faster charging speeds. This platform is also shared with the Zeekr 007 and Geely Galaxy E8.
RWD variants of the Smart #5 are powered by a 340 hp (250 kW) electric motor that delivers 373 Nm. They’re equipped with a 76 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, providing a range of 570 km based on the CLTC test cycle.
An upgraded RWD variant is also available, featuring a 363 hp (267 kW) motor with the same 373 Nm. This variant utilizes a larger 100 kWh ternary battery pack for an extended range of 740 km (CLTC). Three driving modes are available, Eco, Comfort, and Sport, allowing drivers to tailor the car’s performance to their preferences.
The fastest RWD variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 6.5 seconds. It also supports fast charging, reaching 80% capacity from 30% in just 15 minutes.
For those craving exhilarating performance, the AWD variant is the one to choose. With dual electric motors—a 300 hp (165 kW), 270 Nm motor at the front and a 421 hp (310 kW), 440 Nm motor at the rear—it delivers a maximum combined output of 587 hp (432 kW). This translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 4.9 seconds. The AWD variant also utilizes the 100 kWh battery pack, providing a range of 580 km (CLTC). In addition to the Eco, Comfort, and Sport modes, the AWD variant offers an All-Terrain mode for enhanced capability on challenging surfaces.
In terms of safety, the Smart #5 is equipped with eight airbags as standard and is equipped with Smart Pro Assist 3.0 intelligent driving assistance systems (ADAS) powered by two OrinX processors. These include features such as:
- Traffic jam assist (TJA)
- Blind-spot monitoring (BSM)
- Lane change assist (LCA)
- Parking Assist
- Forward/rear collision mitigation
