Taking fuel efficiency to new heights, the Isuzu D-Max has now broken its own record. It recently drove an astounding 2,000 km with just 76-litre of diesel from Thailand to Malaysia, surpassing its previous journey of 1,809 km from Bangkok to Singapore!
This record-breaking feat was accomplished during the recent Isuzu Malaysia Dura Miles Challenge. Three different D-Max models participated: a 1.9-litre 4×2 Auto Plus, a 1.9-litre 4×4 Auto Premium, and a 3.0-litre 4×4 X-Terrain. Their journey began in Phitsanulok, a central Thai town about 300 km north of Bangkok, and ended in Klang, Selangor.
With that, the Isuzu D-Max earned a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records for the ‘Longest Distance Driven In A Pick-up Truck With A Single Tank Of Fuel’. To ensure the integrity of the record, a technical steward from the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) sealed the fuel caps of the D-Max trucks and accompanied them from Thailand to Malaysia, verifying that no fuel was added along the way.
Upon crossing the finish line at the new Ultra Gallant Isuzu 3S Centre in Klang, Selangor CEO of Isuzu Malaysia Shunsuke Okazoe said that the achievement underlined Isuzu’s amazing engineering capabilities in developing Blue Power diesel engines.
“While we do not expect every customer to drive their D-Max for 2,000 kilometres on a single tank of fuel, it clearly demonstrates the level of engineering that goes into every Isuzu vehicle to such a record possible,” said Okazoe.
Mr. Okazoe, joined by Mr. Kenkichi Sogo, COO of the Light Commercial Vehicle Division, received the certificate of completion from MAM’s Secretary General, Mr. S.N. Nanthan, and Steward, Mr. Muhd. Siraj. They also received the certificate of achievement from Malaysian Book of Records’ officers, Mr. Edwin Yeoh and Mr. Mohd. Nazrul.
“Equally amazing is that the D-Max does everything extraordinarily well. Whether it is conquering the jungle trails of Sabah in the Borneo Safari, bringing families and loved ones home safely and comfortably or speedily delivering goods to its destination, the Isuzu D-Max displays the prowess to handle it all with ease,” said Sogo.
The Isuzu D-Max is available in eight variants, with prices ranging from RM98,949 for the 1.9L Single Cab MT to RM157,938 for the 3.0 AT X-Terrain. Engine options include a 1.9-litre four cylinder turbodiesel producing 148 hp and 350 Nm and a 3.0-litre four cylinder turbodiesel producing 187 hp and 450 Nm, both available with either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox. Power can be sent to all four wheels across all variants via Isuzu’s four-wheel drive (4WD) system, except for the Auto Plus 4X2 variant which is rear-wheel drive.
