Lamborghini Temerario debuts as Huracán successor – 4.0L twin turbo V8 PHEV, 907hp

Lamborghini has completed its transition to electrification with the introduction of the Temerario. This new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) supercar replaces the Huracán, marking the end of the brand’s internal combustion engine era. After 11 years of production, the Huracán has been succeeded by the Temerario, solidifying Lamborghini’s commitment to electrified vehicles.

The Temerario comes with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain and three electric motors that deliver a combined output of 920 hp. This potent setup enables a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 343 km/h.

Lamborghini’s new V-8 engine features a unique “Hot V” configuration and a flat-plane crankshaft. Twin turbochargers boost power output to 36 psi. Lightweight materials, such as cast aluminum alloy cylinder heads and titanium connecting rods, contribute to the engine’s high-revving capabilities, allowing it to reach 10,000 rpm.

The Temerario features a hybrid powertrain combining a V8 engine with three electric motors. The rear electric motor is strategically positioned between the engine and the dual-clutch transmission (DCT), producing up to 150 hp and 300 Nm. Two additional electric motors drive the front wheels, each generating 82 hp. This configuration enables all-wheel drive capability, while a “Drift Mode” allows drivers to distribute torque to the rear wheels for controlled drifting intentionally. Additionally, the Temerario incorporates a launch control function for enhanced acceleration.

It features a 3.8 kWh battery pack that can be charged in approximately 30 minutes using a 7 kW AC charger. Regenerative braking and a connection to the V-8 engine offer additional charging options, with the latter enabling a recharge time of just 6 minutes. While the manufacturer has not disclosed the electric-only driving range, the Temerario can operate exclusively on its electric motors.

Design-wise, it draws inspiration from both the larger Revuelto and the outgoing Huracán. Featuring sleek headlights and hexagonal LED daytime running lights (DRLs), the Temerario boasts a distinctive and modern aesthetic. The vehicle offers a choice of 20-inch and 21-inch wheels, available in forged or carbon-fiber options.

The Temerario Alleggerita features a lightweight package with enhanced aerodynamics and reduced weight. Key elements include a larger rear wing, unique bumper treatments, and carbon fiber wheels. This package delivers a 158% increase in downforce compared to the Huracán Evo while reducing weight by 25 kg. The optional Carbon Pack further enhances weight reduction through carbon fiber components on the rear diffuser, mirror caps, and side air intakes.

The Temerario features a lightweight aluminum chassis, a departure from the Huracán’s mixed aluminum and carbon fiber construction. This new chassis design offers a 50% reduction in material usage, eliminates 80% of heat-welded joints, and significantly improves torsional rigidity. These advancements contribute to a reduction in overall vehicle weight.

Interior-wise, it features a cockpit-inspired design with hexagonal elements. Offering enhanced space, the cabin provides ample headroom and legroom, even accommodating taller passengers. A central 8.4-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital driver display complement the interior, while the passenger enjoys a 9.1-inch touchscreen.

The introduction of the Temerario aligns with Lamborghini’s electrification plans. The brand aims to further expand its electric vehicle lineup in the coming years, solidifying its commitment to sustainable mobility.
