Lexus LBX Morizo RR launched: GR Yaris-powered, 6-speed MT available

Unveiled as a concept back in January this year, the Lexus LBX Morizo RR has now been officially added to the variant offering of the Lexus LBX. Essentially a crossover luxury version of the GR Yaris, the Lexus LBX Morizo RR is on sale in Japan with a starting price of 6,500,000 yen (approx. RM194,191). It is also available as a “bespoke build” that costs 7,200,000 yen (approx. RM215,104).

As a souped-up version of the Lexus LBX, it is powered by the same 3-cylinder 1.6-litre turbocharged engine (G16E-GTS) that makes 304 hp (metric) at 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm at 3,250-4,600 rpm. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission/6-speed manual (that has also found its way into the new GR Yaris) and an all-wheel drive (AWD) system, the powertrain is able to deliver a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.2 seconds.

Besides the significant enhancement to its driving performance, the Lexus LBX Morizo RR also gets visual enhancements to suit its new capabilities. Its front bumper is much more aggressive as its cooling vents are now much larger and more angular.

In line with “performance SUV” trends, the plastic wheel arch claddings are now painted in body colour and complemented by an aggressive side skirt. At the rear, it gets twin exhaust tips and a “Morizo RR” badge slapped on the left side. Completing the look of the LBX Morizo RR is a set of 19-inch forged wheels.

Inside, the Lexus LBX Morizo RR gets enhanced with several sporty touches such as black & red stitching and Morizo RR leather seats. The cabin is also enhanced with micro geometric pattern film.

Announced in Japan, only 100 units of the Lexus LBX Morizo RR “bespoke build” will be available. As most limited-run cars in Japan, it will be sold via a lottery system.
