Suzuki Jimny bids farewell to Europe with “Horizon” edition – 900 units, manual only

The Suzuki Jimny is bidding farewell to Europe due to the region’s increasingly stricter emission standards, and the little SUV is doing it in style with the introduction of the special edition Suzuki Jimny Horizon. The petrol Jimny’s final hurrah is only available in 900 units, and it retails at EUR 32,340 (approx. RM164,379).

The Suzuki Jimny Horizon is essentially a kitted up version of the Suzuki Jimny NFZ in its “Comfort” trim. It is only available with a manual transmission and an exterior “Medium Gray” colour. Among the special kits on the Jimny Horizon are:

  • Front grille with Suzuki lettering
  • Underbody guard on the front bumper
  • Adventure side skirt set
  • Flexible mud flaps on the wheel arches and
  • Spare wheel cover with Suzuki lettering
  • Black steel wheels
  • Jimny lettering on the sides

As for its powertrain, the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine can be found under its hood. This engine puts out 102 hp (metric) and 130 Nm at maximum which is sufficient for its small and light body. Unique among the small unibody SUVs of today, the Jimny is built on a ladder frame chassis as a traditional SUV should be.

The Suzuki Jimny’s departure from Europe isn’t exactly the end of the icon. Suzuki is reportedly working on a new version of the Jimny and it could possibly use a hybrid or fully electric powertrain to better comply with Europe’s increasingly stricter emission standards. Another Suzuki to face the same fate as the Jimny is the Suzuki Swift Sport which has been confirmed to be discontinued in the United Kingdom by 2025.

Over in Malaysia, the Jimny is available for sale in its “regular” version and a special “Rhino Edition”. Only available as a 3-door in Malaysia currently, a 5-door Suzuki Jimny will soon be launched in Malaysia.
