Proton has been awarded the Industry Excellence Award at the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards 2024. This award has been bestowed to the national carmaker as a recognition for its commitment to advancing vehicle safety and its efforts to improve safety features across its entire model lineup.
Proton Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Roslan Abdullah said, “Proton, the first Malaysian brand to achieve this honour, has a rich history of prioritising safety in all its models, as evidenced by various accolades received over the years. This year’s recognition highlights our innovative safety technologies and the significant strides we have made to ensure the well-being of our customers. We extend our gratitude to ASEAN NCAP for this honour and for fostering a safer automotive environment in the region.”
“Our current range of intelligent models have a large number of passive and active safety technologies and our newest models, the Proton S70 and Proton X90, are even equipped with features such as a Fatigue Driving Reminder System (FDRS) to reduce the risk of driver fatigue. This award reflects Proton’s commitment to leverage on advanced technologies and innovative design to enhance and improve the safety of our vehicles and ultimately helps to keep our drivers and passengers safe,” he added.
Proton’s most popular SUV models, the Proton X50 and X70 are both rated with 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. The recently updated 2024 Proton X50 comes with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Since its inception, the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards have celebrated top achievers in vehicle safety within the ASEAN region. Proton has been selected to receive the Excellence Award due to its continuous and outstanding efforts and contributions in vehicle safety technology.

This new accolade underscores Proton’s efforts in advancing safety and its ongoing support for improving vehicle safety throughout the region. Aside from the awards ceremony, the biannual ASEAN NCAP event held at the King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) featured insightful sessions on the latest safety protocols and technologies.
These sessions enabled automotive players in the region to stay at the forefront of automotive safety innovation. The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (better known as ASEAN NCAP) is a collaborative effort between the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Global NCAP.
