Kineta & chargEV partner to expand EV charging network in Malaysia – to bid for large tenders in ASEAN

Kineta, a subsidiary of Sime Darby Berhad, has entered an alliance with chargEV, a sub-brand of Yinson GreenTech (YGT), to accelerate the growth of EV charging infrastructure in Malaysia. The two companies will work hand-in-hand to further enhance and expand the electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Malaysia, and will also combine strengths to jointly bid for selected large tenders in Malaysia and in the ASEAN region.

Kineta boasts one of the largest Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST)-certified teams of 40 electrical engineers to ensure the safety and regulatory compliance of all home and business installations. The brand also has full-fledged in-house customer service, after-sales, technical support, and warranty teams, ensuring comprehensive support throughout its customers’ EV journey.

Kineta Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Sunny Lee said, “Kineta is thrilled to join forces with chargEV to truly provide a full end-to-end solution for all EV drivers’ charging requirements. With our combined forces, we can certainly accelerate the government’s aspirations to have 10,000 chargers within the next few years.”

“We believe this partnership represents a major milestone in our EV industry, merging chargEV’s extensive charging infrastructure network between Malaysia and Singapore and Kineta’s total EV charging solutions to ease the transition to electric vehicles for all drivers,” added Lee.

chargEV Managing Director, SengTeong Chua said, “Battery Electric Vehicles only made up 1.45% of new car sales in 2023, but as demand for fully electric vehicles grows, so will the demand for easily accessible, reliable, and seamless charging infrastructure. The focus on a frictionless experience has been our driving motto as we continue to grow the chargEV footprint in Malaysia and beyond.”

“We recognize the need to work with partners that share the same vision and commitment to excellence. With Kineta’s solid track record in delivering high-quality installation, customer-centricity, and an innovative approach to product development, we believe this is just the start of an electrifying partnership,” added Chua.

Both chargEV and Kineta are committed to supporting Malaysia’s aspirations to have EVs accounting for 15% of the total industry volume (TIV) by 2030. This aligns with the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint and the National Energy Transition Roadmap.
