Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer debuts – up to 685km range, 200kW DC charging, EV Passat Estate

Volkswagen has just debuted its first-ever all-electric wagon, the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer. Essentially the wagon version of the ID.7 sedan that made its debut last year, the ID.7 Tourer is one of the first electric wagon cars to have been made in its segment in the European market.

On the outside, Volkswagen says the ID.7 Tourer is a fusion of a classic wagon in the format of the Passat, and a dynamic shooting brake such as the Arteon. One can also say that it is an all-electric version of the brand’s Passat Estate.

The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will be offered with two battery sizes, although the capacities haven’t been confirmed just yet. Volkswagen says the long-range model will have a WLTP-rated range of 685 km and can be charged at a maximum DC charging rate of 200 kW, which can charge the car from 10 to 80% in under 30 minutes.

Moving inside, the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer comes with seats that can be opted with pressure-point massage and automatic ventilation functions as an option. Also optional is the brand’s new Wellness In Car app, which users can use to control the car’s various functions such as air conditioning, smart glass function, seat air conditioning and seat massage, as well as the infotainment screen.

Aside from the fundamental functions, the Wellness In Car app also comes with three preconfigured programmes – Fresh Up, Calm Down, and Power Break. The programmes are said to help “enhance wellbeing during journey or breaks”.

Interestingly, the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will also come with an augmented-reality (AR) head-up display (HUD) as standard. The AR HUD helps project information relevant to the journey into the driver’s field of vision, so their eyes can stay focused on the road.

The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will be produced together with its sedan sibling, as well as the ID.4 SUV at the brand’s electric mobility plant in Emden Germany. What do you think about the Volkswagen ID.7? Like the idea of all-electric wagons?
