BYD leads Thailand EV sales in 2023, Neta 2nd – country’s EV sales up by nearly 7X over 2022



In 2023, Thailand registered a total of 76,314 EVs, which is a 684.4% or nearly seven times increase from 2022, according to a report by Autolife Thailand. Among the EVs sold in the country, BYD was the most popular brand, having sold 30,650 cars, while Neta placed second with 12,777 cars sold. MG came in third place, recording a total of 12,764 units of sales.

Following behind MG was Tesla which sold 8,206 cars in the Land of Smiles, while a total of 6,746 cars left Great Wall Motors (GWM) showrooms in Thailand, placing it in fifth place in the 2023 Thai EV sales chart.

When it came to Thailand’s top 10 individual EV model sales in 2023, the BYD Atto 3 took the number one spot as the best-selling EV model with 19,214 units sold. The Neta V came in second place, recording 9,410 units of sales. The BYD Dolphin achieved third place with 9,410 units of sales, while the Ora Good Cat was fourth with 6,712 units sold.

Standing in fifth place is the Tesla Model Y with 5,881 units, while sixth place was taken by the MG 4 Electric with 4,833 units. The MG EP+ ended 2023 in Thailand with 4,475 units registered, while the Tesla Model 3 followed behind with 2,324 units.

The BYD Seal recorded 1,810 units of sales which puts it in ninth place, while the MG ZS EV came in tenth place with 1,753 units registered in the Land of Smiles last year. The 76,314 units of EVs sold in Thailand in 2023 only accounted for 12.02% of the country’s car sales for the year, which stood at 634,948 registered units.

Thailand also saw a significant increase in the number of EVs sold in the country in 2023 over the previous years, with 76,314 units registered. Comparatively, the country saw 9,729 units of EVs registered in 2022, 1,935 units in 2021, and 1,056 units in 2020.
