Video: GAC GS3 Emzoom & Emkoo – The coolest-looking SUVs EVER?

Recently, we’ve been invited by GAC Motor to check out their cars in Guangzhou China. Among the cars we had the honour to test were the GAC GS3 Emzoom and the GAC Emkoo.

GAC Motor is planning to reintroduce itself in the Malaysian market next year and will be setting up a RM60 million local assembly (CKD) plant here. Over 70 GAC showrooms will also be set up across the country, which certainly isn’t a small commitment by any means.

The GAC GS3 Emzoom has also been confirmed to be locally produced and will compete against the likes of the Proton X50, Chery Omoda 5, and the Honda HR-V.

Take a look at GAC’s two new SUVs, and it is not hard to see that they’re styled to impress, especially the younger crowd with their sharp and dynamic lines. Their exterior designs also sort of remind us of certain models made by the Spanish carmaker Cupra.

GAC GS3 Emzoom

Performance-wise, the GAC GS3 Emzoom is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine mated to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This combo makes a total of 177 hp and 270 Nm and sends all power to the front wheels.

GAC’s local distributor WTC Automotif (WTCA) also told us that the larger GAC Emkoo, which will be rivalling against competitors such as the Proton X70 and Honda CR-V will also be coming to Malaysian shores in the near future.

GAC Emkoo

In its home market, China, the Emkoo is available with either a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four mill which makes 177 hp and 270 Nm, a 2.0-litre inline-four with 252 hp and 499 Nm, or a 2.0-litre hybrid system that pushes out a combined output of 238 hp. Thus far, it is not confirmed which powertrain option will make its way to Malaysia, only time can tell.

What do you think of these two GAC SUVs? Are they the coolest-looking SUVs ever? For more information on the GAC GS3 Emzoom and Emkoo, do check out our video linked here!
