The Nissan Hyper Force is an EV concept with GT-R and Super Silhouette vibes

No, you’re not looking at a giant wedge, this is the Nissan Hyper Force concept which has just made its debut at Japan Mobility Show 2023. It is an EV concept car that reportedly pays homage to Nissan’s high-performance cars and it is designed for racing enthusiasts and gamers who also happen to be eco-conscious.

Let’s get into the performance figures of this wild-looking concept car first. It packs 1,000 kW (1,360 hp metric) and is equipped with Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel control technology. Nissan has not specified how many electric motors drive the Hyper Force concept car, and it would be no surprise if each wheel gets its own motor for optimum control.

The design of the Nissan Hyper Force concept is, to say the least, extremely extreme. It looks like a high-speed tank with its immense width and planted stance. But it’s no super-heavy car according to Nissan as the Hyper Force concept is made of light-weight materials featuring high-strength carbon. The aero bits on the Nissan Hyper Force concept are also not just for show as the car has a high aerodynamic performance that has been developed together with the NISMO Racing Team.

Some of its aero bit include the two-tiered aerodynamic structure under the front hood, the dual-lever rear diffuser, front canards front fender flip, and most impressively, a newly-developed plasma actuator. This plasma actuator suppresses air detachment to maximize grip and minimize inner-wheel lift during cornering. The Super Silhouette-looking wheels are lightweight forged carbon wheels that aids aerodynamics and brake cooling.

Cleverly related to the “GT-R” moniker, the Nissan Hyper Force Concept features two driving modes – “R” (racing) and “GT” (Grand Touring). The graphical user interface changes colour and display according to the mode, and is designed to instantly display the most needed information for the driver in line with the driving circumstances.

These graphics are the result of collaboration with Polyphony Digital Inc. And if Polyphony Digital sounds familiar, that’s the company that gave us the iconic Gran Turismo racing game series (which also now has a movie made based on it).

The seats for the Nissan Hyper Force Concept are made of made of lightweight, highly rigid carbon fibre that allows comfortable long-distance driving, and are equipped with four-point seat belts.

Completing the cabin of the Nissan Hyper Force concept is an augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experience. When the car is stopped, drivers can use a special helmet with blind visors for VR that enables entering a gamified driving experience, complete with modes that enable racing against the clock or online racers.

The AR function allows the drivers to compete with “ghosts” of their friends on a live circuit. They simply have to put on a skeleton visor for the AR to work properly. So, you can basically “race” each other on the same circuit without risking crashing into one another.

One last feature of the Nissan Hyper Force concept is its hyper LIDAR technology and array of sensors tuned for sports driving. This makes the Nissan Hyper Force concept a safe vehicle for both public roads and racing circuits. The Nissan Hyper Force concept was unveiled together with 4 other concept cars from the brand.

Nissan president and CEO, Makoto Uchida said, “All five concept cars showcased today are symbols of the future and embody our founding spirit of ‘daring to do what others don’t’. We have advanced our EV innovations, moving beyond mobility to create a more sustainable world. The EVs symbolize our future of creating a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive world for everybody without compromising on passions and dreams. Through the power of innovation, Nissan is creating a future where everyone can enjoy the excitement of mobility.”
