Back in July, Chery made its official comeback to the Malaysian market with the launch of two new SUVs, and one of them was its B-segment fighter – the Chery Omoda 5. Locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah, the Chery Omoda 5 is offered in two variants – the C and H variants, and is priced at RM108,800 and RM118,000 respectively.
On the outside, the Chery Omoda 5 features the brand’s “Art in Motion” design language. Equipment-wise, the X50-fighter is packed with LED lighting and 18-inch alloys as standard. The H variant also gets sequential turn indicators, welcome light animations, and red accents on the outside.
Inside, the Chery Omoda 5 is fitted with faux leather and fabric combo upholstery, twin “floating” 10.25-inch displays, together with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. It also comes with a wireless charging pad and an ambient lighting system.
The H variant gets extra features such as an 8-speaker Sony Premium sound system, a six-way powered driver seat with ventilation, full faux leather upholstery, a powered sunroof, and a hands-free powered tailgate.

Powering the brand’s B-segment SUV across its range is a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 156 hp and 230 Nm. The mill is paired with a CVT gearbox with nine virtual gears, sending power to the front wheels.
The Chery Omoda 5 in Malaysia comes with a 7-year/150,000 km manufacturer’s warranty, together with five years of free labour. Customers can also opt for an extended 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty package by topping up an extra RM2,000.

With the Chery Omoda 5 offered at such competitive prices, is it the new value king in the B-segment SUV market? Or is it just another pretty face? Check out our review video to find out.
