BMW Neue Klasse SUV teased, 1 of 6 new EVs to spawn from new platform

A new class of BMW vehicles is set to become a reality, literally known as the “Neue Klasse” (which means new class in German). While BMW has officially unveiled the BMW Vision Neue Klasse to the world, the company has also teased a Neue Klasse SUV in the video that was shown during the keynote speech of the Neue Klasse.

In the video shared by BMW during the presentation, a side profile of the Neue Klasse SUV was shown (at 26:40), albeit in heavy camouflage. We were also shown a transparent 3D model of the car depicting the iDrive system pulsating, somewhat communicating with the entire car. Despite the camouflage, we still do get a pretty good look at the upcoming Neue Klasse SUV.

Based on the side profile alone, we can see that the Neue Klasse SUV adopts a similar profile to the BMW iX with a short front overhang and a long rear overhang. One could even confuse it as the iX if not for the different placement of the charging port (placed further back), the window line, and the tailgate line. The silhouette of the front end draws a strong resemblance to the BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept car.

Other things that can be seen via the side profile include the flush door handles, bulbous wheel arches, and side mirror design. At the rear end of the camouflaged car, an extrusion can be seen to disguise the new taillight design.

While we only get a glimpse of the side profile of the Neue Klasse SUV, we can expect it to share the same technological advancements that were previewed in the Vision Neue Klasse. For example, the Vision Neue Klasse is powered by the 6th generation of BMW eDrive and the brand’s new round battery cells. The round battery cells are said to have 20% higher energy density than the prismatic cells.

The sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology is also claimed to improve the Neue Klasse models’ charging charging speed by up to 30% and boost their range by up to 30%. As a result, the overall vehicle efficiency is also said to be increased by up to 25%.

The Neue Klasse ushers in a new era for BMW, not just in terms of technology, but also in terms of design. During the keynote speech for the Neue Klasse, BMW CEO, Oliver Zipse said that the company plans to launch six Neue Klasse electric models within 24 months during a keynote speech over the weekend. “From SAV to Sedan, there is something for every customer,” Zipse explained.
