Sime Darby Beyond Auto continues to expand the BYD brand in Malaysia by opening two new outlets in the states of Penang and Johor Bahru. Modelling after many EV carmakers’ modus operandi in other countries, the two new BYD locations are integrated directly into shopping malls – Gurney Plaza in Penang, and Mid Valley Southkey in Johor – instead of the traditional standalone outlets usually seen here in Malaysia.
The new outlets are “1S centres”, which means they are merely a showroom floor for display and sales. Customers in the Northern and Southern region can access aftersales services at Jalan Sungai Pinang in Penang and Jalan Skudai Kiri in Johor Bahru respectively.
Sime Darby Beyond Auto says that its service centres are all equipped to provide diagnostic support for accurate car maintenance and service needs. Its integrated management of parts distribution throughout the nation also ensures sufficient supply of spare parts for its vehicles, the company adds.
Sime Darby Motors Retail and Distribution Managing Director, Jeffrey Gan said, “The response to BYD in the Malaysian market has been overwhelmingly positive, clearly demonstrating growing adoption of EVs in the country. We are pleased to build up our momentum with this expansion drive to continue serving increasing EV demand amongst consumers across Malaysia with BYD’s innovative vehicles.”

BYD Motor Indonesia Managing Director, Eagle Zhao said, “The aggressive expansion of BYD’s network in Malaysia shows positive growth for EV prospects in the country, as more Malaysians recognise BYD’s brand presence and the benefits of EV. The two new showrooms join a rapidly expanding list of BYD outlets in Malaysia, including a city centre showroom at TREC KL, 3S centre in Glenmarie in partnership with Sisma Auto, as well as its flagship 3S centre in Sime Darby Motor City, Ara Damansara.
