Gallery: Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e Coupe – plug-in hybrid SUV, RM404k

Although the all-new GLC Class has already been unveiled globally, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is not quite done with the C253-generation model just yet, and has introduced the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e Coupe in the second half of last year.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e Coupe is the sole GLC Coupe offering currently available here in Malaysia, and is also the only other plug-in hybrid offering, aside from the S-Class. With that many titles to its name, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e Coupe comes in at a price of RM403,888 on-the-road, without insurance.

While we may not be the biggest fans of the whole SUV-Coupe trend, it’s hard to argue against the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e Coupe’s charisma. Aside from the sloping roofline, it’s also equipped with the AMG Line body kit, massive 20-inch wheels, as well as the signature diamond pin front grille to make it stand out from the crowd.

On our test unit, the standard-fit AMG Night package – which blacks out most of the chrome trim pieces on the exterior – also works well visually as an accent against the blank white canvas. Although, if there’s one thing to complain about, it’s the weird placement of the charging port – the extra flap on the rear bumper just ruins the balance of the car’s sleek design, making it seem like just an afterthought.

Inside, the brown Nappa leather upholstery is a welcome addition, as it significantly elevates the premium ambience of the cabin. The open pore wood trim also adds a touch of youthfulness to the cabin, without looking too shouty.

With that being said, the dashboard design – with the floating tablet-style infotainment display and sculpted instrument cluster binnacle – is unfortunately starting to feel a little old-school now, especially with the large displays now offered on its other siblings.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e Coupe is powered by a M274 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine, paired to a single electric motor to make a combined 320 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission, translating to a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5.7 seconds, and a top speed of 230 km/h (140 km/h in EV mode).

For the electrified bits, power is sourced from a 13.5 kWh battery pack, taking 1.5 hours to recharge with the 7.4 kW on-board AC charger. Fully charged, the battery is capable of providing up to 43 km of pure electric range, via the 90 kW (122 hp) electric motor.
