What we have here is one of 999 units of the Ferrari 812 Competizione coupe that was unveiled back in mid-2021. The “Competizione” moniker is Ferrari’s new concept of offering all the technologies and experience gained in all the motorsport activities on its models, and the 812 Competizione is proof of that.
Faster than the 812 Superfast, the 812 Competizione accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.85 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 7.5 seconds. This is thanks to its more powerful naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine that makes 830 hp @ 9,250 rpm and 692 Nm @7,000 rpm. Paired with the naturally-aspirated engine is a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission which has been calibrated to reduce shift times by 5%.
To enable the V12 engine to rev above 9,000 rpm, the mass of moving components in the engine have been reduced. The crankshaft is 3% lighter (from the previous version) and the titanium con-rods are 40% lighter (compared to their steel counterparts). To reduce friction, key components of the valvetrain are coated with Diamond-like carbon.
Singing the tune of the naturally aspirated V12 is a new “trumpet” exhaust outlet that has been given serious attention to accommodate the enforced gas particulate filter (GPF). It also provides a “blown diffuser” aerodynamic concept, where the hot exhaust gases interact with the new underfloor diffuser’s field to generate up to 35% more downforce than the 812 Superfast.
The exterior of the Ferrari 812 Competizione is adorned with plenty of vortex generators at the front, side, and bottom of the car. However, the main highlight is the set of six vortex elements on the now “deleted” windscreen of the 812 Competizione. To accommodate the lack of a rear window, the 812 Competizione features a rearview camera with a screen on the rearview mirror. Ferrari says this patented rear “screen” vortex generator contributes 10% more rear downforce compared to the standard 812 Superfast.
Fetching a price of RM 2.2 million in Malaysia (before taxes and options), the Ferrari 812 Competizione is hard to miss on the road. With its bright colours and extravagant aero bits, you are sure to spot this from a mile away.
