Bentley Bentayga Odyssean Edition is a luxury SUV that wants to save the planet

With only 70 units to be made, the new Bentley Bentayga Odyssean Edition is Bentley’s most sustainable car to date. To date, Bentley has successfully electrified half of its offerings. Based on the Bentayga Hybrid, the Bentayga Odyssean Edition pushes sustainability further by also using sustainable materials in addition to the Hybrid powertrain.

Yes, the same plug-in hybrid system with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine powers the Bentayga Odyssean Edition. This means that it makes the same combined output of 462 hp (metric) and 700 Nm. The powertrain is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the Odyssean Edition launches from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds.

As for the electric component of the hybrid system, the electric motor alone is capable of 136 hp (metric) and 400 Nm. Storing electricity in the Odyssean Edition is an 18-kWh battery pack that gives the car an electric range of 45 km (WLTP).

Three ‘E’ driving modes are available in the Bentayga Odyssean Edition, namely the “EV Drive”, “Hybrid Mode”, and “Hold Mode”. The “EV Drive” mode, as its name suggests, lets you drive on electric power only. The car starts in this mode, and the “EV Drive” mode can take you up to 135 km/h should you desire.

“Hybrid Mode” maximises the Bentayga’s efficiency and cleverly utilizes information from the intelligent navigation system. What this means is that on planned long journeys, the car uses predictive E-mode and engine coasting when necessary. When you set a destination, the system will ensure that the 18-kWh battery is at 0% state-of-charge (SOC) at the final destination, maximizing overall efficiency. “Hold Mode” essentially holds the battery’s charge for later use and is the default mode when in “Sport”.

To one-up the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid in terms of sustainability, the Bentley Bentayga Odyssean Edition makes use of the following sustainable materials:

  • Open pore koa veneers
  • Sustainable natural leather
  • Tweed upholstery panels

Bentley says the Open Pore Koa veneers use 90% less lacquer than high-gloss veneers. Minimising waste, the open-pore veneer is painted with just three ultra-thin layers of lacquer, together totalling only 0.1 mm in thickness. The leather upholstery is authentic but is a sustainably-sourced natural leather. As for the tweed upholstery panels, they are made of 100%British wool which minimizes the carbon footprint of the Odyssean’s manufacturing process.

Distinguishing the Bentayga Odyssean Edition from the Bentayga Hybrid are the Pale Brodgar accents around the car and an Odyssean-exclusive set of wheels. To help you spot the 70 limited units of the Bentayga Odyssean Edition, here are its distinguishing features:

  • Ombré embroidery
  • Three-colour interior, unique and bespoke to Odyssean
  • Unique 22-inch wheels with Pale Brodgar accents
  • Pale Brodgar on front and rear bumpers
  • Pale Brodgar on headlight and taillight surrounds
  • Pale Brodgar on lower body side chrome

To match the Pale Brodgar Accents, Bentley has curated six colours for the Bentley Bentayga Odyssean Edition. However, customers still have the freedom to choose from over 60 colours for the car.

As for Bentley specifications, the Bentayga Odyssean Edition comes equipped with the Front Seat Comfort Specification as standard. This gives the front seats 22-way adjustability and a heating and ventilation function.

Also standard for The Odyssean Edition is the Touring Specification driver assistance system. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Traffic Assist, and Bentley Safeguard. Bentley Safeguard is Bentley’s suite of onboard radar and camera systems that constantly monitor the surrounding traffic and roads. Production of the Bentayga Odyssean Edition will begin in Q1 2023.
