AMG turns 55 with Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 – RM2.8M, 5 units only

While the Munich brand which-shall-not-be-named celebrates 50 years of its “Motorsport” division, AMG turns 55-years old this year, having been established since 1967. Now known as Mercedes-AMG GmbH, the Affalterbach team is celebrating its 55th anniversary with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55, a very limited series race car that fetches a price of 625,000 Euros (approx. RM 2,808,195).

Limited to only five units, there is both good news and bad news for Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 customers. Let’s start with the bad news – The AMG GT3 Edition 55 is not street legal as it is a ‘Customer Racing’ car. Well, we think this is fine. You shouldn’t be taking this beast of an AMG for a Sunday brunch. Instead, you should be driving it to its absolute limit on the racing track.

The good news is that the AMG GT3 Edition 55 is not restricted by FIA homologation regulations. This allows it to come up with more power from the AMG 6.3-litre V8 Engine. Compared to the FIA-homologated version, the Edition 55 produces 650 hp, which is 100 hp more than usual. Complementing the AMG V8 engine is a performance exhaust system made of Inconel that comes without a silencer.

To ensure exclusiveness of the limited-series Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55, a specific range of numbers (“GT3.190-55”) was created for the chassis numbers of the five units. On the outside, the Edition 55 is coated in a special Manufaktur Alpine Grey finish with red accents. The Affalterbach crest has been painted on the doors and the 55-year anniversary logo adorns the rear wing.

In the racing cockpit, the seat embroidery includes the anniversary symbol, while the centre console and carbon seat are adorned with plaques with “Edition 55 – 1 of 5” inscription. A matte Anthracite metallic finish and visible carbon elements complete the interior. A Bosch DDU 11 display sits behind the steering wheel.

Lucky customers of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 also get a specially designed car cover and a Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” with the chassis number of the corresponding Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 engraved on the back of the watch case. In addition to the GT3 Edition 55, Mercedes-AMG will be expanding its portfolio of special series vehicles, based on various Mercedes-AMG production models.
